Lee Cheuk-yan & Chow Hang-tung: 1,500 Days in Jailed Without Trial

1 min read

The national security trial against the Hong Kong Alliance has been postponed yet again, now scheduled for January 22, 2026.

Lee Cheuk-yan and Chow Hang-tung have been detained for over 1,500 days without trial — a blatant violation of the presumption of innocence. The Hong Kong government continues to use prolonged pre-trial detention to isolate and silence dissenting voices.

Under international human rights law, everyone has the right to a fair and timely trial. Yet Hong Kong’s National Security Law, with its vague and sweeping definition of “national security,” is systematically denying bail and undermining fundamental rights.

Christopher Mung, the Executive Director of HKLRM, said: “This shameful regime is manipulating the court to prolong their suffering before trial. Our solidarity must not falter in this long struggle against political prosecution. They must know that they are not alone!”

Freedom of expression is not a crime.
Lee and Chow should never have been prosecuted for commemorating June 4 and seeking historical truth.

The Hong Kong government must immediately release both of them and all political prisoners — let truth and conscience no longer be silenced.
