On 21 October, we brought the labour rights talk and exhibition to Guildford, Surrey in Southern England in collaboration with the Guildford Hongkongers.
We had a lively conversation on the difference in labour rights between the UK and Hong Kong. In addition to an overview of labour rights in the UK, local employees’ rights, such as statutory sick leave compensation and proper dismissal arrangements were also covered.
The exhibition illustrating the history of labour struggle in Hong Kong reminded us about the importance of solidarity. To learn more about your rights working in the UK, we always encourage our fellow Hongkongers: “Join a trade union!”. You may also learn more about the workplace culture, a way to adapt to life in the UK.
We are planning to bring the talk and exhibition to Cardiff in Wales and Manchester in northwest England in November. Keep an eye out and join our next event when it comes to your town or city!
