This month, we bought the labour rights talk and exhibition to Manchester (16 Sept) and Birmingham (22 Sept) in collaboration with the Good Neighbour Church and West Midlands Hongkongers Support CIC respectively. We had a lively conversation on labour rights in the UK. It was heartening to see how the Hongkongers who actively raised questions!
In the talk, we gave an overview of labour rights in the UK and different forms of employment and their respective labour protection. We also discussed how to handle labour disputes in the UK and touched on the retirement scheme in the UK. To learn more about your rights working in the UK, as we always encourage our fellow Hongkongers: “Join a trade union!”
After the talk, we put up an exhibition on the history of Hong Kong’s independent trade union movement. It’s important not to forget the resilience and power of the trade union movement in Hong Kong and carry on its spirit. During the Birmingham event, a representative from West Midlands Hongkongers Support CIC also encouraged Hongkongers in the UK to participate in local affairs and register as a voter to exercise their right.
We are planning to organised more exhibitions and talks in the southern England and Wales. Keep an eye out and join our next event when it comes to your town or city!
