ITUC-Asia Pacific condemns aggressive attacks against trade unions in Hong Kong

The ITUC-Asia Pacific Regional General Council Meeting in Singapore last month endorsed a resolution demanding the immediate release of jailed activists and union leaders in Hong Kong.

We will take the necessary actions to support the struggles of our sisters and brothers in the region.

The resolution condemns the aggressive attacks, threats and intimidation against trade unions, human rights defenders and pro-democracy forces in Hong Kong and urges the authorities to uphold its international human rights obligations and the recommendations of the international treaty bodies such as the conclusions of the ILO Committee of Freedom of Association and the Committee of Application of Standards and UN Human Rights Committee. 

Shoya Yoshida, General Secretary of the ITUC-Asia Pacific said, “The resolutions that the Regional General Council adopted are not only an expression of solidarity but a commitment that we will take the necessary actions to support the struggles of our sisters and brothers in the region.”
