Hong Kong Labour Rights Monitor Executive Director Christopher Mung joined the June 4th Tienanmen Massacre vigil in London on 4 June 2023.

“The authorities may prohibit vigils in the Victoria Park in Hong Kong, but not in the rest of the world.” Mung said in his speech at the vigil event outside the Chinese Embassy in London. He urged Hong Kongers living abroad to honour their freedom and bear the torch of remembrance.

For 30 years, Hong Kong had held candle light vigil on 4 June to commemorate the Tienanmen Massacre. The candlelight vigil have been silenced since 2019 because of COVID and the rising political repression in the city.

During the weekend of 4 June, 23 people were taken by the police.
