RFA| HKLRM’s report find the number of “mini trade unions” surged threefold

RFA covered the findings of Hong Kong Labour Rights Monitor’s report, ‘The State of Labour in Hong Kong 2023, which revealed that over 200 trade unions were forced to dissolve in the past three years. And the number of “mini trade unions,” which have 50 or fewer members, has more than tripled, from 287 to 813. The diminishing membership and fragmented nature of trade unions have made it difficult for workers to unite and fight for their rights. Christopher Mung, Executive Director of Hong Kong Labour Rights Monitor believes that the government is using an other way to weaken union power, and the trend of union dissolution would continue.
